Description

Alpha® PWC Pneumatic Wet Cutter/Grinder — 5" & 6" Industrial Stone Tool

The Alpha® PWC series is a purpose-built, industrial-grade pneumatic wet cutter/grinder designed from the ground up for stone fabrication — not a converted dry grinder with a bolt-on water line. Its Quad-W center water-feed adapter delivers water to both sides of the blade for clean cuts and flat grinding, while a reversible safety guard, L-bracket and side handle let you configure the tool for left or right blade position, push-to-cut, or pull-to-cut work. Built on more than 35 years of Alpha wet-tool engineering and backed by a one-year tool warranty.

Features

  • High-speed, high-performance pneumatic angle cutter/grinder
  • Quad Adapter center water-feed — direct water flow to front and back of the blade
  • Reversible safety guard for left or right blade position
  • L-bracket and side handle setup for the pull-to-cut method
  • Side handle attachment for the push-to-cut method
  • Spring-return throttle prevents accidental start
  • Easy-access oil port for daily maintenance
  • Center water-feed is ideal for flat grinding as well as cutting
  • One-year tool warranty

  1. Run on a clean, dry compressed-air supply at 90 PSI (6.2 Bar) and a minimum 33 CFM (934 L/min).
  2. Always install an Alpha Filter/Regulator Manifold upstream to keep humidity and debris out of the motor.
  3. Add several drops of Rust Inhibitor Oil through the oil port at the end of every shift; spin the spindle a few turns to coat the cylinder and rotor.
  4. Mount the Alpha Elite Q blade (included) using the Quad-W Adapter for cutting; use the Katana Q blade for porcelain or sintered slabs.
  5. For dry cutting/grinding under OSHA Table 1, swap the steel safety guard for an Alpha Ecoguard CX, W6 or GX and connect a HEPA vacuum.
  6. Replace mufflers when you notice power loss — clogged exhaust is the most common cause.

My compressor is large enough but the PWC bogs down. What can I do?

You probably have multiple tools sharing the airline. Each PWC needs a steady 33 CFM at 90 PSI; isolate the tool, shorten the airline, or upsize the supply to restore performance.

How is the PWC different from a regular pneumatic angle grinder?

Most "wet" pneumatic grinders on the market are dry tools with a bolt-on water feed. The Alpha PWC is engineered from scratch as a wet industrial stone tool, drawing on 35+ years of Alpha wet-polisher development.

How do I cut with the PWC?

Use the included Quad-W Adapter, which feeds water to both sides of the blade. The Quad-W is standard equipment and is also sold separately through Alpha distributors.

What is the warranty?

One year on the tool. Full terms are printed in the operator’s manual.

Can I run the PWC dry?

Yes — for dry cutting or grinding, replace the steel safety guard with an Alpha Ecoguard CX, W6 or GX and connect a HEPA vacuum to capture silica dust per OSHA Table 1.

What is the best long-term maintenance routine?

Always run the PWC downstream of an Alpha Filter/Regulator Manifold to remove humidity and debris. At the end of every shift, add a few drops of Rust Inhibitor Oil through the oil port and turn the spindle a few revolutions to coat the cylinder and rotor.

Should I use an automatic oiler?

No. Auto-oilers soak the muffler with dirty oil (causing clogs and power loss), spray oil onto the stone (staining), and make the floor slippery. Daily manual oiling is the recommended method.

I have lost power even though my settings are unchanged. How do I fix it?

The muffler is most likely clogged. Remove the exhaust deflector with a screwdriver and replace it — you can also rotate it to redirect the exhaust away from the operator.

How do I change the angle of the spring-return throttle lever?

Use a 48 mm spanner to loosen Nut Part No. 60, rotate the lever to the desired position, and re-tighten.

Which blade should I use on porcelain or sintered slab?

Switch from the included Elite Q (granite / quartzite / engineered stone) to the Alpha Katana Q, which is purpose-built for porcelain and sintered slabs.

Where can I get the parts schematic?

Download the PDF schematic from the Documentation section below, or call Alpha at 800-648-7229.
