Description

Alpha® DW Style Grinding Wheels

Alpha® DW Style is an aggressive turbo grinding wheel formulated to grind and shape natural stone. Fabricators and installers reach for these wheels to profile granite edges, smooth out inside sinkhole cuts, prepare surfaces for lamination, and remove heavy material in a hurry. The turbo segment design delivers fast stock removal — saving time and reducing operator fatigue — and the wheels are engineered for either wet or dry use on a standard 5/8"-11 angle grinder.

Features

  • Aggressive turbo design — fast stock removal on granite and engineered stone
  • Excellent performance on hard red granites
  • Profiles edges, smooths inside sinkhole cuts, preps surfaces for lamination
  • Use wet or dry on a 5/8"-11 angle grinder
  • Two diameters (4" and 6") and two grits (Coarse and Medium)
  • Long-lasting diamond segments — reduces operator fatigue
Part No. Size Grit Max RPM Threads UPC
DW4C11 4" Coarse 14,500 5/8"-11 749173670039
DW4M11 4" Medium 14,500 5/8"-11 749173670046
DW6C11 6" Coarse 10,100 5/8"-11 749173460821
DW6M11 6" Medium 10,100 5/8"-11 749173460838
  1. Thread the DW wheel directly onto a 5/8"-11 angle grinder spindle.
  2. Confirm the grinder's no-load speed does not exceed the wheel's max RPM (14,500 for 4", 10,100 for 6").
  3. Choose Coarse for aggressive material removal and edge profiling; choose Medium for smoother grinding and lamination prep.
  4. Run wet for the cleanest cut and longest wheel life, or dry where water is impractical.
  5. Use light, steady pressure — let the diamond segments do the work; do not force the wheel.
  6. Wear ANSI-rated eye protection, hearing protection and a respirator when running dry.

What is the difference between Coarse and Medium?

The aggressiveness of the grinding action. Coarse removes material faster and leaves a rougher surface; Medium grinds more smoothly and is preferred for finishing work and lamination prep.

Which materials can I grind with the DW Style?

Granite and engineered stone, including the very hard red granites. The DW Style is not recommended for marble or softer materials — use a softer-bond wheel for those.

Can I run the DW wet or dry?

Both. The wheels are designed for dry grinding but perform exceptionally well wet. Wet grinding extends wheel life and controls dust.

What is the maximum safe RPM?

14,500 RPM for the 4" wheel and 10,100 RPM for the 6" wheel. Never exceed these limits.

What thread do these wheels use?

5/8"-11 — the standard arbor on most US angle grinders. No adapter is required.

Are these wheels good for profiling edges?

Yes. The turbo design profiles granite edges quickly and is widely used for shaping straight, eased and demi-bullnose edges before polishing.

How do they compare to a cup wheel?

A turbo wheel like the DW is shaped for edges and contoured cuts; a cup wheel is designed for flat surface grinding. Use the DW for edges, inside cuts and shaping; use a cup wheel for top-surface flatting.

What PPE should I use?

ANSI-rated safety glasses, hearing protection and a respirator (especially when grinding dry). Use a guard on the grinder and never remove safety equipment.

Where are these wheels made?

Japan.
