Akemi Rust Remover Paste — Acidic Gel Cleaning Paste (1 L, HCl-free)
AKEMI® Rust Remover Paste is a professional, jelly-like cleaning agent formulated to lift rust stains from acid-resistant natural and artificial stone. Built on inorganic acids with non-ionic surfactants and rust inhibitors — and completely free of hydrochloric acid — it removes both surface rust and staining caused by iron inclusions (occlusions) within the stone, enveloping the rust-causing particles to inhibit fresh rust from forming. Its thick, gel-like body clings to vertical surfaces, making it the ideal choice for fçades, wall coverings, and other upright work where a liquid rust remover would simply run off.
- Hydrochloric-acid-free — based on inorganic acids with rust inhibitors and biodegradable surfactants
- Jelly-like consistency — stays put on vertical surfaces such as fçades and wall coverings
- Tackles inclusion rust — envelops rust-causing occlusions in granite and gneiss to inhibit new rust
- For acid-resistant stone only — not for polished marble, limestone or other calcareous surfaces
- Pairs with AKEMI® protection — follow with Stone Impregnation or Stain Repellent as an added rust defense

- Removes surface rust stains as well as staining caused by rust inclusions within the stone
- Envelops rust-causing occlusions in natural stone (granite, gneiss) to inhibit the formation of new rust
- Jelly-like consistency makes it ideal for vertical surfaces such as fçades and wall coverings
- Free of hydrochloric acid, with rust inhibitors built into the formula
- Contains non-ionic surfactants that are biodegradable in line with surfactant regulations
- Best followed by AKEMI® Stone Impregnation or Stain Repellent to keep watery substances out of the stone as added rust protection
Recommended for:
- Acid-resistant natural and artificial (cast) stone — e.g. granite and gneiss
- Vertical surfaces such as fçades and wall coverings, where a liquid rust remover would run off
- Both surface rust and rust originating from iron inclusions within the stone
Not suitable for: calcareous / acid-sensitive materials — it damages polished marble, limestone, terrazzo, eloxal (anodized aluminium) and enamel, so it must never be used on them. If in doubt, test an inconspicuous area first.
For floor coverings and other horizontal areas, AKEMI® Rust Remover in liquid form is the recommended alternative.
- Make sure the stone is absolutely dry. Apply the paste undiluted with a solid brush or spatula, treating the complete stone surface to avoid new rusting or color changes on untreated areas.
- Allow the product to work for up to 24 hours. To keep it from drying out, cover the treated area with a synthetic foil.
- Rinse thoroughly with water until all excess product has been removed.
- Repeat the process on the dry stone if necessary.
- Once the stone has been successfully treated, protect it with AKEMI® Stone Impregnation or AKEMI® Stain Repellent to stop watery substances from penetrating and to guard against new rust.
- Strongly acidic — never apply to polished marble, limestone, terrazzo, eloxal or enamel. Test an inconspicuous area if you are unsure.
- Prepare a sample area before starting to judge cleaning power, final appearance and material consumption.
- Keep away from plants; rinse any contact immediately with water. Do not empty concentrated or diluted product onto planted areas.
- A particularly long dwell time can slightly darken some stones — this usually disappears after washing several times with plenty of water and AKEMI® Stone Cleaner.
- For proper disposal, empty the container completely.
- Industrial chemical product — use only in well-ventilated areas and wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection. Always consult the AKEMI Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.
Industrial chemical product — strongly acidic. Use only in well-ventilated areas. Wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection. Never use on polished marble, limestone or other calcareous stone. Consult the AKEMI Safety Data Sheet (available from the manufacturer or stein.akemi.de) before use. Technical values are manufacturer figures and may vary with jobsite conditions.
