Description

Akemi Stone Impregnation — Solvent-Based Penetrating Sealer

AKEMI® Stone Impregnation is a ready-to-use, solvent-based impregnating sealer based on modified oligomeric alkylalkoxysiloxanes. Drawn deep into the stone by capillary action, it reacts catalytically to form a water- and dirt-repellent polysiloxane that also bonds with the siliceous substance of the stone for years of protection. Because it penetrates rather than coating the surface, the stone keeps its natural look and stays breathable — moisture is released quickly during dry periods, and no film builds up on top. It is well suited to marble, limestone, granite, terrazzo, concrete, brick, and other absorbent mineral surfaces, indoors and out.

  • Deep-penetrating impregnation — drawn in by capillary force, not a surface coating
  • Water- & dirt-repellent — sharply reduces absorption of water and soiling
  • Breathable — high vapor diffusion lets the stone release moisture and dry quickly
  • UV-resistant and effective for several years
  • Look-neutral — the color of most stones is not enhanced (always pre-test)

Color Enhancing No
  • Extreme reduction of water and dirt absorption during periods of moisture
  • Rapid release of humidity during dry periods thanks to high vapor diffusibility
  • Maintains the breathing properties of the stone — no surface layer is formed
  • Penetrates especially deep by capillary action and reacts with the stone for multi-year efficiency
  • Resistant to UV radiation
  • The color of most stones is normally not enhanced, keeping a natural appearance
  • Ready to use — no mixing required; may be diluted 1:1 with AKEMI® Nitro-Dilution on less absorbent stone

Suited to absorbent mineral surfaces:

  • Natural & engineered stone — marble, limestone, granite, gneiss, porphyry, terrazzo
  • Cotto and unglazed ceramic tiles
  • Brick, sand-lime brick, concrete, and mineral-based plaster
  • Polished, fine-ground, or rough finishes

Typical uses: table and window sills, floors and stairs, gardens and terraces, gravestones and monuments, facades, and walls.

Not suitable for: glazed or non-absorbent surfaces, or plaster.

Note: on most stones the color changes little, but on quartzite and serpentine a clearly visible color enhancement can occur. Always prepare a sample area first.

  1. The surface must be clean, totally dry, and free of all layers. After cleaning, rinse well with water and allow to dry — as a rule at least 1–2 days.
  2. Prepare a sample area of about 11–22 ft² (1–2 m²) to check the effect, appearance, and material consumption.
  3. Work at 59–77°F (15–25°C), protected from moisture for approx. 2–3 hours. The stone must not be warmed by underfloor heating or direct sunlight.
  4. Apply undiluted with a brush or mop (or low-pressure airless spray), generally one to two coats wet-in-wet. On less absorbent surfaces, dilute 1:1 with AKEMI® Nitro-Dilution.
  5. About 20 minutes after application — before it dries — completely wipe off any excess that has not been absorbed. Re-polish polished surfaces until all bloom is removed.
  6. The water-repellent effect develops within minutes; full protection after 2–3 hours. Reapply if the finish is uneven. Clean tools with AKEMI® Nitro-Dilution.
  • Solvent-based product — keep away from heat, sparks, and open flame.
  • Do not over-apply: a surplus of product causes blooming and spotting.
  • Protect surrounding solvent-sensitive materials (window screens, lacquered parts, vehicles, plants).
  • Test existing joints for solvent resistance before treating.
  • Seal the reverse and lateral surfaces of the stone so rising moisture cannot penetrate.
  • For spray application, avoid forming aerosols, do not breathe vapors, and wear respiratory protection.
  • Industrial chemical product — use only in well-ventilated areas and wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection. Always consult the AKEMI Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.
