Batch the work: rip all strips for the job in one session, then profile, then polish, keeping the pieces in slab order so color runs continuously along each wall.

Edges, ends, and corners

Profile and polish the top edge on every strip before any end cuts, so the edge treatment is continuous and identical across the batch. Corners then become the craft moment: outside corners look best mitered, with the two polished faces meeting in a crisp arris; inside corners can be butted with one piece scribed over the other's profile, exactly as finish carpenters cope wooden trim. Cut miters a hair strong and dress to fit — trim work forgives a dressed joint and advertises an open one. Walk the plan for interruptions before cutting: door casings, floor vents, radiator pipes, and outlet boxes that sit low. Protect the work from its own jobsite. Skirting goes in near the end of a project, but painters, floor finishers, and appliance movers arrive after it. Tape-and-board protection along installed runs costs minutes; a gouged miter after handover costs a return visit and a color match. Cleaning-machine compatibility is the specification detail that wins commercial work. Facility managers think in terms of the auto-scrubber's brush line and the wall damage budget; stone skirting exists precisely to absorb that contact forever. Quote it with a small radius or chamfer at the exposed top edge, dense stone or porcelain in the body, and epoxy-grouted floor junctions where wash-down chemistry is aggressive.
